Earlier today, Motorola surprised a lot of us by announcing not one new Moto X smartphone, but two. With the Moto X Style and Moto X Play, Motorola has once again diversified their lineup and once again will be offering devices with excellent price tags and features to match. While the Moto X Style is going to be offered as a ‘Pure Edition’ in the United States, giving it superpowers to work on any 4G network out of the box, the Moto X Play will not be sold in the US. For a lot of people, that might be a big disappointment.
The main differences between the Moto X Style and Moto X Play is perhaps the 5.7-inch Quad HD display in the former, and a run of the mill 5.5-inch 1080p display in the latter. However, things go a little deeper than that, as they both share the new 21-megapixel camera that Motorola is promising great things from, but the Moto X Play has much better battery life. Not only is that 3,630 mAh battery larger than the Moto X Style’s 3,000 mAh cell, but it’s also rated for “48 hours of mixed use” as oppose to “30 hours of mixed use”. It also still retains all of the glorious Moto Maker features that were found in last year’s Moto X and the Moto X Style for this year.
Still, the Snapdragon 615 inside of the Moto X Play is a bit of a letdown as well, which makes the Snapdragon 808 inside of the Moto X Style a bit of a no-brainer. Besides, the $399 starting price of the Moto X Style is another reason not to lament the lack of a Moto X Play here in the US of A. Of course, those hoping for a stock Android experience, with some customization and great battery life might be more than a little disappointed. Either way, Motorola’s cat is out of the bag, and you can read all about the Moto X Style and Moto X Play, as well as the new Moto G – available today, by the way – on Android Headlines.
