When Motorola launched last year’s Moto X, it was lauded as a modern improvement in a number of ways. It offered users a larger display, a batter camera and Moto Maker, a key selling point of the phone, got even better. Sadly though, the battery life was a sore point for its users and it was perhaps the main reasons many stood on the fence when considering the larger Moto X. This year however, Motorola is launching two Moto X devices, the Moto X Play and Moto X Style. While the Play is a Snapdragon 615 driven mid-range with the luxury of Moto Maker, the Moto X Style is the creme de la creme of Motorola’s range, and this year they’ve bought their A Game when it comes to battery life.
Right off the bat, the Moto X Style’s battery is a sizeable 3,000 mAh, a big jump from the 2,300 mAh battery in last year’s Moto X. During their event, Motorola said that this new battery was rated for a respectable 30 hour of “mixed use”, and with a Snapdragon 808 running the show, it should at least come close to offering this. Much like last year’s however, the Moto X Style charges quicker than ever before. On stage, they compared it to the Galaxy S6, which is a little unfair as the Galaxy S6 doesn’t include Qualcomm QuickCharge, which is essentially what Motorola’s TurboCharging is. However, Motorola is saying the new Moto X Style is the world’s fastest-charging smartphone. To put this into perspective, the Moto X Style can get 10 hours of use out of just 15 minutes of charging, no matter how you look at it, this is pretty good.
The Moto X Play however, has a 3,630 mAh battery, powered a device with a smaller 5.5-inch Full HD display and a more reserved Snapdragon 615 processor. Sadly, this long-lasting beast isn’t coming to the US, which is something of a disappointment, but considering the Moto X Style starts at $399 with an included TurboCharger, we can’t complain too much. The Moto X Style will be available this September, which the Moto G is already available today.
