Earlier today, during their “XGX” event, Motorola surprised many of us by releasing not just one, but two Moto X devices, as well as the obligatory Moto G, which is now better than ever. The Moto X Play, a more budget-friendly version of the Moto X, with a massive 3,630 mAh battery isn’t heading to the US of A. Instead, the Moto X Style will be taking its place, and at a price starting at just $399 directly from Motorola, the Moto X Style has a lot going for it. Not least because it will be available exclusively in the US as a ‘Pure Edition’.
You might be wondering what ‘Pure Edition’ could possibly mean what with Motorola already shipping these with stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Well, the Moto X Style will be available to purchase and then use on any of the major four US carriers. No questions asked. It doesn’t matter if you’re moving from T-Mobile to Verizon, or from Sprint to AT&T – it’ll just work. This is down to what Motorola is calling “universal banding” which essentially means Motorola have done what Apple have been doing for a long time now; make one phone for everything. Which is great news for US customers! Starting September, when the Style finally goes up for sale, users will be able to buy a Moto X Style from Motorola, Amazon or Best Buy and take it to whichever network they like, sans contract without any need to worry about compatibility.
Motorola will be marketing the larger, 5.7-inch Moto X as the Moto X Pure in the US, presumably due to the lack of the Moto X Play, but also to push home the fact that this will be made available unlocked for no extra cost, and will just work no matter where you go. Other highlights of this giant new Moto X include a 21-megapixel camera, and a 3,000 mAh battery that can deliver 10 hours of use from 15 minutes of charge with the included TurboCharger 25 charger.
