While the world of smartphones has seen its share of weirdly named brands over the years, especially from China, none of them can quite hold a candle to an Indian brand which goes by the name Wickedleak. As if that wasn’t enough, the most popular smartphone range from the company is named the Wammy Passion, and the company has already released a number of phones under the sub-brand over the past couple of years. That’s right, Wickedleak Wammy Passion is the actual name of a range of smartphones that exist on the face of this planet. You couldn’t make this up if you wanted to.
The company on Friday, launched a brand new smartphone in India as part of its equally curiously-named Wammy Neo line of mid-range smartphones. The device has been named the Wammy Neo 3, and according to the company, it measures 152 mm x 75.5 mm with a thickness of 8.7mm. The phone weighs 177 grams with the battery. The Wammy Neo 3 features a 5.5-inch Full HD 1080p OGS display with a 76 percent screen-to-body ratio. The handset is powered by MediaTek’s MT6752 SoC, which comes with a 64-bit octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 1.7 GHz, and a Mali-T760 GPU. The smartphone also comes with 3 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by up to 64 GB with the help of a microSD card. The device runs Android 4.4 KitKat, which can be upgraded to 5.1 Lollipop. The device has a 14-megapixel rear camera, which comes with LED flash, and the ability to record 1080p videos at 30 fps. The front-facing selfie-cam meanwhile, comes with a 5-megapixel sensor.
As for connectivity options, the Wammy Neo 3 comes with support for 3G HSPA+ and 4G LTE networks on the following bands: FDD-LTE – band B3 (1800 MHz), B7 (2600 MHz) and B20 (800 MHz). As for TDD-LTE, the phone supports band B39 (1900 MHz), B40 (2300 MHz) and B41 (2500 MHz). The handset also comes with support for dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. The phone includes dual SIM connectivity and an FM radio receiver along expected lines. The battery on the device is rated at 3,000 mAh. As for the price of the device, the Wammy Neo 3 will have an MSRP of Rs. 14,990 ($240), although retail prices are expected to be lower. The company is also offering an optional molecular nano-coating called Aquaprotect, for complete water-proofing. The company claims, the technology would allow the smartphone to be submerged under water for 30 minutes without damage. This would come for Rs 1,500 ($24) extra.
Speaking at the launch event, Mr. Aditya Mehta, CEO, Wickedleak Inc. said, “With the launch of Wammy Neo 3, we intend to get premium devices in the hands of consumers at extremely competitive price points. At the same time, we are ensuring that the consumers would get all the latest specifications like 3 GB DDR3 RAM and 64 Bit Processors”.
