A number of rumors have suggested that Xiaomi intends to ditch the Snapdragon 810, and switch to Snapdragon 820 instead, at least as far as the Mi 5 goes. The Snapdragon 810 has been accused of heating way too much by various sources, and it seems like Xiaomi intends to avoid that problem. A new leak which surfaced in China actually reveals Mi 5’s release time frame and partial specs. According to the source, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is codenamed ‘Libra’ and will be released in November this year. The phone will reportedly feature a 5.3-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display along with 4GB of RAM and 16 or 64GB of internal storage (depending on the version you choose to purchase). The phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 64-bit SoC, and a 3,030mAh battery has also been mentioned. The 16-megapixel camera will allegedly be available on the phone’s back side, and a 6-megapixel snapper will be available up front. The phone ill offer fingerprint scanning capability, and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will come pre-installed here with Xiaomi’s MIUI OS available on top of Google’s OS.

There you have it folks. If these specs turn out to be true, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be a really powerful handset. The leak doesn’t mention this, but the Mi 5 will almost certainly include metal in its build, it remains to be seen if it will be an all-metal device, or will Xiaomi combine metal with plastic in this case. Either way, we’ll report back as soon as some additional details surface, so stay tuned for that.
