Chromebooks continue to be big sellers for those looking to strike the right balance between performance and affordability. As such, many manufacturers are keen to bring their options to the market. However, Acer has been extremely active in the Chromebook arena and has already introduced more Chrome OS options than most other manufacturers and some of them, not your typical options either. One of those which has been highly covered in the headlines this year is the Acer Chromebase and for those who missed the earlier announcements, this is more of an all in one solution for computing. As such, the Acer Chromebase is designed to be a cheaper alternative to a more standard and traditional desktop, in much the same way as how Chromebooks are a more affordable alternative to traditional laptops.
The Acer Chromebase is available in two models. In short, most of the specs of the two variants are the same and as such, both models come sporting 4GB RAM and both are powered by an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor. Not to mention, both come with 16GB internal storage as standard. Additional features on offer with both, include Bluetooth 4.0, 3 watt speakers, HDMI ports and two USB ports. However, where they differ is with the display. The standard model comes sporting a 21-inch screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, while the premium model comes sporting a touch-enabled 21-inch 1920 x 1080 display. The cheaper one will set you back $329 while the more expensive one will cost you $429.
Acer officially announced the launch of the Chromebase back in April of this year and by June, Acer had made another announcement detailing that it was being launched in the U.S. and its relative pricing. As such, it has been known for sometime to be coming. Well, following on from these announcements, it now seems that it is available through Amazon for those interested in picking one up. The prices on Amazon are generally in line with the previously announced prices, although the touchscreen version is costing $440 which is $10 more than had been announced.
