Xiaomi had lots to say today during the company’s press conference in their homeland. China’s number one smartphone OEM has announced new software and hardware during the event, including MIUI 7 OS and Redmi Note 2 handset. We’ve already covered those announcements. That being said, Xiaomi didn’t really release all that many MIUI 7 images, so we had to look elsewhere in order to find them. Weibo (Chinese social network) is luckily always full of all sorts of content when it comes to Chinese smartphone OEMs. Read on.
The CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, has shared a couple of MIUI images on his official Weibo page, keep in mind that these are not exactly high-res images. There aren’t all that many images in here, but it’s a start. MIUI 7 is actually quite similar in many ways to MIUI 6, but Xiaomi has improved some things, especially under the hood. The MIUI 7 reportedly consumers 25% less battery than MIUI 6, and its response time is 30% faster than it was before. These are Xiaomi’s official number by the way, it remains to be seen how will it work in real life use. MIUI 6 is a very responsive iteration of Xiaomi’s OS, but things can always get better, of course.
The company has also introduced a couple of new features here, like the ‘MUSE Theme Sets’ which will let you customize MIUI 7 the way you see fit. There are a ton of themes available, and we’re sure more will be coming as well. Xiaomi has also introduced ‘Face Recognition’ feature in the Gallery app, which is kind of self-explanatory. That being said, a number of Xiaomi-branded devices will be received this update, including some of Xiaomi’s older handsets, like the Mi 2, Mi 3, and some newer ones like the Mi Note / Note Pro, Redmi 2, etc.
The company will start rolling out MIUI 7 tomorrow, but they didn’t say which devices will get the update first. Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that Xiaomi will announce the global variant of MIUI 7 on August 19th in India, a variant of the OS which will include Google Play Services. The MIUI iteration announced today does not include Google Play Services considering they’re blocked in China, as many of you know. That’s it, we’ll report back if any additional info pops up.
