Xiaomi is the number one smartphone OEM in China at the moment. This company was founded back in 2010, and it took them less than 5 years to climb to the top of the food chain in China. The company has already released a number of devices this year, and they still have to showcase a few of them, but that’s not what we’re here to talk about. We’re here to talk about Xiaomi’s software, a new version of their Android-based MIUI OS. The majority of Xiaomi-branded devices are running MIUI 6 OS at the moment, but the company has finally unveiled the MIUI 7 during the press conference in Beijing, let’s see what they had to say.

The company has opened up their press event by talking about all sorts of statistics, like the fact MIUI now has over 150 million users, at least according to the company. Soon after that, Xiaomi has started announcing the new version of their UI. The first things they announced are ‘MUSE Theme Sets’, and they’re exactly what you think they are. These are basically themes for MIUI 7, there are tons of them and you can adapt your phone’s design to fit your needs perfectly. You’ll also be able to customize font size in MIUI 7, customize it to the extreme. Another rather interesting announcement in MIUI 7 is ‘Face Recognition’ for the Gallery.

Xiaomi moved on to say that they’ve made a lot of changes under the hood in order to make this the most fluid MIUI version to date. The company says that the system responses much faster now (by 30%), and that applications open way faster. Something else the company has focused on is battery life consumption, they say that MIUI 7 consumes 25% less battery than MIUI 6, which sounds impressive, but we’ll see the results shortly. We don’t exactly have a full changelog at the moment, but you can check out some of Xiaomi’s official images down below.

The company has also released some availability details. Xiaomi said that the MIUI 7 rollout will kick off tomorrow, and that a number of Xiaomi-branded devices will get the update. Mi 2, Mi 2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note, Mi Note / Mi Note Pro, Mi 4i, Redmi 2 and Redmi Note 2 will all get the update (additional devices will probably receive the update as well). Xiaomi did not specify if all of these devices will start getting the update tomorrow though, but we’ll find out soon. As a side note, Xiaomi will unveil the global variant of MIUI 7 on August 19th in India, so stay tuned for that as well.
