Adobe has some of the more popular design tools available. Whether you are using Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, or any of their other products, they are great products. Albeit a bit pricey compared to their competitors, they are definitely worth it. Now the company is looking for that same success on mobile. Adobe’s Max conference is set to take place this October, and they are planning to unveil a new Photoshop app that will be available for the iPhone and iPad. Also, according to CNET, there will be an Android version available later on. But not available at launch, unfortunately.
The app is said to be designed to help those unfamiliar with Photoshop to learn how to edit their pictures in Photoshop. The app will be free – no word on In App Purchases, but they will likely be there. The app will obviously, have a touchscreen UI, with all the tools at the bottom of the screen. What is interesting here is that it’ll have face recognition so you could literally put a smile on someone’s face. This new Photoshop app, which is named “Project Rigel” will work with Adobe Creative Cloud. So, for example, if you have a project you’re working on, on your desktop you can take it to your smartphone or tablet using Creative Cloud and continue working on it. Pretty neat feature. Creative Cloud starts at $10 per month which gives you access to Photoshop and Lightroom as well as 20GB of cloud storage.
Adobe has had a Photoshop app available on mobile for a while, in Photoshop Touch. Which was a $10 paid app for both iOS and Android. However, users showed plenty of disdain towards the app. Between it being a $10 app and also not being as user friendly as the desktop versions of Photoshop. Back in May, Adobe took down the app and essentially burned it with fire. At that time they also started dropping hints about this new version of Photoshop that will be unveiled in October.
While many of us will not be happy about iOS getting the new Photoshop app first, hopefully Adobe doesn’t follow everyone else’s footsteps and brings Photoshop back to Android pretty quickly after iOS gets a taste.
