ARCHOS might not always be the first company you think of when discussing smartphones, however, they do release a number of smartphones each year and have already done so in 2015. Back in January and right before CES, ARCHOS announced a new addition to its Diamond line in the form of the ARCHOS 50 Diamond. Following which, in July, the company introduced their next Helium smartphone in the form of the ARCHOS Helium 50d . Now, in the lead up to IFA next month in Berlin, ARCHOS has just announced the latest smartphone which is also being added to the Diamond line. This latest addition is the ARCHOS Diamond S. The Diamond S is designed to offer great value for the money without compromising on the specs. According to Loic Poirier, CEO of ARCHOS, “There is an enormous demand for superlative smartphones like the ARCHOS Diamond S at prices that the average person can afford.”
In terms of those specs, the ARCHOS Diamond S comes equipped with a 5-inch Super AMOLED display, with a 1280 x 720 resolution. Inside, the Diamond S comes loaded with 2GB RAM and powered by a MediaTek (MT6753) Octa-core processor (clocking at 1.5 GHz), along with a Mali T720 processing the graphics. Internal storage is set at 16GB as standard, although the Diamond S does come equipped with a microSD card slot for further expansion when needed (up to 32GB). Moving to the camera side of things and the Diamond S comes touting a 16-megapixel rear camera (with Autofocus and LED Flash) which is coupled with an 8-megapixel front facing camera. Additional features on offer include dual-SIM, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, 2G, 3G and 4G LTE support. Last, but not least, the Diamond S is powered by a 2,300 mAh battery and comes running on Android 5.1 (Lollipop) out of the box.
In terms of pricing and availability, ARCHOS has confirmed that the Diamond S will be available to purchase in Europe starting from November and will cost only £159.99. At present, details were not provided as to whether this will become available in other markets in the future. Although, ARCHOS is confirming that the Diamond S will be on show at this year’s IFA event in Berlin.
