We have covered ASUS’ new ZenPad models in recent weeks and today, the company has announced the UK launch of eight new versions of the ZenPad, all powered by Intel processors, at a number of retailers, including PC World, Argos, Amazon and Tesco. Prices range from the £80 Z170C, which is based around a quad core Intel Atom X3 processor with 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage plus a 1,024 by 600 pixel, 7-inch IPS display. The Z170C will be available in Black, White, Red, Aurora Metallic colours. At the opposite end of the scale is the £200 middle / high end ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA), which is based around a quad core, 64-bit, 1.83 GHz Intel Moorefield processor, 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage and an 8-inch, 2,048 by 1,536 pixel IPS LED backlit screen. The ZenPad S is just 6.6mm thin. ASUS are also selling the 10-inch ZD300C tablet complete with a keyboard for the same price as the Z580CA; the ZD300C has a 1,280 by 800 pixel display, a quad core Intel Atom X3 processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. A number of models include what ASUS is calling the modular back-panel, which allows for the devices to be customized and can also add additional functionality to the tablet.
The modular back panel includes the Zen Clutch, which ASUS describes as “a sophisticated carrying and protection solution [to] outfit ZenPad in their choice of five sleek or vivid colours and features a fine leather texture.” ASUS will also be selling the Audio Cover, which brings 5.1-channel sound to a tablet for the first time. There will also be the Power Case, which is designed to extend the battery life by up to fifteen hours of use and so is perfect for a busy day or long haul flight. The modular back panel is available for the ZenPad 380C, which will be on sale for just £120; we’ve no word on how much the interchangeable backs will be when they are released
Some of the other technologies included in the ZenPad range include the ASUS VisualMaster software, which is designed to enhance the display clarity using ASUS Tru2Life and ASUS TruVivid. These image processing technologies are derived from the technology seen on a television and bring “comprehensive visual optimization.” The Tru2Life algorithm analyzes the display and adjusts the contrast and sharpness depending on what is being shown for maximum effect. Additionally, several models include ASUS’ cinematic quality DTS-HD Premium Sound system, including SonicMaster technology, designed to improve the listening experience especially when using earphones.
ASUS’ new tablets are available for UK customers now, offering a range of lower to competent mid-range specification devices with some value-added features thrown in. The optional rear modules are an interesting feature for those models that have the option and a are a great way to make the tablet a more personal purchase for the customer.
