Those who own a OnePlus One are in a for a treat today, as the latest version of software is now available for download to install on devices. This is Cyanogen OS 12.1 and is based on the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 software so OnePlus One owners can be up to date with the latest version of the Cyanogen OS. Device owners should begin to see the OTA update heading out to their phones as early as today, but the update won’t reach everyone before the day is over and will likely take through the week before all OnePlus One devices running Cyanogen OS see this version of software available to install on their devices.
According to some OnePlus Community members around 2 percent of devices have received the OTA update as of 3PM EST, which would put the time at about noon over here on the west coast which was already a couple of hours ago. Having said this it’s quite likely that number has risen a little bit since then, and users will of course continue to receive the OTA update notification as the day goes on. If you aren’t keen on waiting for the OTA to pop up, you can go through with downloading the file and flashing it manually, although we only recommend doing this if you’re aware of the process and the steps included on how to do so, otherwise, you’re probably better of just waiting for the OTA to hit your device normally.
If you choose to download the update package you can do so by hitting this link here, but be prepared for a rather large file download of around 645MB. With an update package of this size it wouldn’t be a bad idea to make sure you have a fairly decent amount of battery life left on your device as well as a fast connection to ensure that download goes quickly. Furthermore if you use the device on a carrier package which has a limited amount of data at 4G speeds, you might even want to initiate and complete the download via WiFi instead of cell data. As for what’s new with this version of Cyanogen OS, users are looking at critical security fixes and improvements to the stability of the software, as well as improvements to the performance of the software overall and a few new features. The entire update should take around 20 minutes to complete so it won’t take long.
