Security on mobile devices is more important than ever these days, as most of our personal information is moving from a PC to smartphones or tablets. Biometric sensors are becoming more popular, as they offer an easier way to authenticate the user’s identity without the hassle of introducing complicated passwords. Android is not having the best of luck in terms of security and actually a study suggests that fingerprint scanners may not be as secure as they might seem, but Google and its partners are working hard to make it less vulnerable by updating some elements more frequently. Android M is the newest version of the operating system, it was presented on May and the final version is supposed to debut on the third quarter of the year, which should have all the necessary patches to solve some of the security issues.
One of the many features that will be included in the new OS release is native support for fingerprint scanners. Rumors suggest that this year, Google will release two Nexus smartphones, one made by LG for the third time and one with Huawei as a partner, being the first time that a Chinese manufacturer makes one of the phones that Google uses to showcase their vision for the OS. While the Huawei-made Nexus is supposed to be better spec’d, one of the features that is supposed to be present in both phones is a fingerprint sensor to take advantage of the newly acquired support for this technology used for unlocking the devices and the new payment system called Android Pay which is said to launch alongside these two new Nexus devices.
Huawei has some experience with these sensors, but it would be the first time that LG integrates one of them into their phones, so LG could also use this technology in future devices like their next year flagship phone as suggested by a market official. The sensor is supposed to be integrated in the power button which will be located on the back as in recent smartphones of the company. Some of the rumored specs of this phone include a 5.2-inch display with Full HD resolution with a Snapdragon 620 processor, both specs belonging to a mid-range device, but there could be 4 GB of RAM included and 64 GB of eMMC 5.1 to store files faster than in previous Nexus devices. The camera configuration will include a 13-megapixel one on the back and a 4-megapixel one on the front. Support for USB Type-C connector would make sense, as Android M supports this new technology as well.
