After so many leaks, it’s pretty safe to assume what to expect from the Galaxy Note 5, which will be unveiled on August 13. We know that the new phablet will make an appearance at Samsung’s Unpacked event as the company has been sharing some images alluding the shape of the phone with the S-Pen that has been part of the series. Those images certainly match what we’ve been seeing from official-looking renders, those used by case makers to showcase their products or even the phablet itself in the hands of a user. There are still a few details that we will have to be confirmed at the official announcement, but the rest of the specs are very likely to be included in the device.
The design is inspired by the one of the Galaxy S6, which has been very well received, even if the sales don’t reflect this. It features a metallic frame and glass covering the display as well as the back, which seems to be curved. Because of that particular design, some features are missing on the flagship device, such as a removable battery and the lack of a Micro SD card slot, both features that had been present in every iteration of the Galaxy S series. Since the design of the Note 5 is very similar, this two features could also be missing.
Even though there have been rumors that the Note 5 could include a slot to expand the internal storage, some compatibility issues could be present because it is supposed to use the faster UFS 2.0 memory modules. Now, a Taiwanese site suggests that only the dual-SIM version of the phablet could include this slot, as it may be integrated into the tray that holds the two SIM cards. It’s not the best solution for those users who buy it for the multiple SIM functionality, as if they want to expand the memory, they will only be able to use one SIM card, but it could be great news for those who actually need more memory. Still, these versions are usually limited to a few markets, so it could be hard to get one everywhere.
