We know a lot of details of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, we really only need tomorrow’s official announcement to confirm a few details about it. Today it even appeared in a promo for Sprint and we’ve known some of its functionality. The company has had very positive reactions about the Galaxy S6 and it’s sibling with a curved display, both in terms of the hardware design and the materials used to build it, even if the sales don’t reflect this. It’s also known that Samsung didn’t expect the higher demand for the Edge version of the phone, so they couldn’t keep up with the production of that device, so they will probably want a second chance to make it right, this time with the new version that’s based on that model but sports a larger screen.
Samsung could also change their strategy regarding the prices on current devices, as we know, both flagships have been getting some price cuts, but apparently with the introduction of the new models, more regions could be benefitted of those discounts. The fact that the Unpacked event is taking place in New York instead of Berlin during the IFA, is also meant to reinforce their commitment to this particular country in hopes to raise market share, particularly against Apple who is expected to introduce new phones in September. The share gap between the two companies has narrowed up to 6 percent on the second quarter of this year, which is significant as it was 20 percent on the last quarter of last year.
Also, according to a report from The Korea Times, Samsung could start their pre-ordering campaign for the Galaxy S6 edge Plus on August 20th, which is really close to the date of the event. Those preorders will be taken by the most important Korean carriers such as SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus, but seeing that the company wants a lot of their new phones to be sold, they might start taking pre-orders in other markets as well as soon as possible, even before September. The report also mentioned that the Galaxy Note 5, which is also expected to launch at tomorrow’s event, will be sold in selected markets including countries in Asia and North America.
