Lava is one of the fastest growing manufacturer of mobile products in India, it was established in 2009 and they currently have a portfolio of products including tablets, feature phones and smartphones with a wide variety of price points. Google has even partnered with this company to create one of the first devices of the new wave of Android One initiative. The Pixel V1 happens to be one of the better-looking ones and it has improved specs, being the first one with an HD display, although it is also priced higher than the rest of Android One phones. Their Iris lineup has a lot of devices including one with an octa-core processor and now a new phone is added to that lineup.
The phone is called Iris Atom 2 and its specs put it in the entry-level category, but the company is betting in its low price and good looks. The display measures 4.5 inches and it has a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. The processor is a quad-core one clocked at 1.3 GHz, but the maker is unknown, it also has 512 MB of RAM. The main camera has a 5-megapixel resolution and features a Largan lens and LED flash, the front facing camera has VGA resolution. Its internal storage comes at just 8 GB, but it can be expanded with Micro SD cards of up to 32 GB.
The phone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, but an update to Android 5.1 Lollipop is guaranteed. It seems to be running a near-stock version of the OS, but it is enhanced by gesture controls for an easier access to the most used apps or settings. The Iris Atom 2 supports dual-SIM functionality, unfortunately, it doesn’t support 4G LTE networks. The included battery has a capacity of just 1,750 mAh, but it offers more than 6 hours of talk time on 3G networks. The dimensions of the phone are 134 x 66 x 9.15 mm and it weighs 130 grams. The phone is already available in India and it can be purchased on the manufacturer’s site as well as some retail stores for Rs. 4,949 ($75) in black or white color options.
