ZUK is one of the most talked-about Chinese OEMs lately. This company is backed by Lenovo and Qihoo 360, which makes it very prominent. Anyhow, the company has been teasing the arrival of their ZUK Z1 smartphone for quite some time now, and they’ve finally launched the device yesterday. ZUK Z1 is a very affordable, and yet very well-specced handset which might appeal to Chinese consumers. The device will be available only in Asia for the time being, but we’re waiting for more info from the company regarding the possible international availability.
That being said, we’ve already covered the initial announcement of the ZUK Z1, and are here to take a closer look at the device, considering the fact that first ZUK Z1 unboxings started popping up in China. If you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll get to see ZUK Z1 in the flesh, courtesy of IT168. ZUK Z1’s design is nothing to write home about, but the device is well-built, and sports a metal frame. You can clearly see the home button / fingerprint scanner below its display, and the power / lock and volume rocker buttons which are located on its right-hand side. The speaker is located on the bottom of ZUK Z1, along with the Type-C USB 3.0 port.
The ZUK Z1 features a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The Snapdragon 801 quad-core SoC clocked at 2.5GHz powers this phone, and a rather big 4,100mAh battery is also a part of this package. The 13-megapixel OIS camera (Sony’s IMX214 sensor, f/2.2 aperture) is available on the back of this phone, and an 8-megapixel snapper can be found up front. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop comes pre-installed on this thing with ZUK’s ZUI user interface on top of it. ZUK Z1 offers 4G LTE connectivity, and costs 1,799 Yuan ($285) in China.
What’s interesting here is the fact that ZUK has already scheduled another event for August 21st, and we believe that the company plans to announce the international variant of this device. According to various rumors, that variant might feature Cyanogen OS instead of the ZUI user interface, bu we’ll see. Either way, stay tuned, we’ll report back soon.
