Talks about a “Super Premium” LG smartphone slated for the second half of this year isn’t just an empty, baseless rumor. The device, which is said to be positioned higher than the company’s present flagship, the LG G4, was originally spoken of back in March this year, at the MWC 2015 event held in Barcelona, Spain. It was there that the President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications, Mr. Cho Juno, had himself confirmed the company’s plans to introduce such a device in the market by late 2015. Now, Mr. Juno has seemingly reiterated the LG’s plans to launch the aforementioned device at some stage during the rest of the year, while speaking to the media after the company’s executive and staff meeting at the LG Twin Tower in Seoul, South Korea. This time around however, Mr. Juno was more careful about his previously used “Super Premium” sobriquet, and steered clear of using the expression, whilst downplaying his previous assertion.
Coming to what sections of the South Korean media believe the upcoming phone is going to be like; the device is said to be a large-screened phablet which will be positioned as a competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, alongside Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6s Plus. There are even speculations that the smartphone may actually be a lower-priced version of the G4, with premium hardware, but different build materials. However, with nothing officially coming from company insiders, it’s all in the realms of speculation right now.
Talking about speculations, there are also multiple ideas floating around about the probable nomenclature of the upcoming device. G For Games wonders whether the smartphone will be launched with a name like “G Note or something along those lines”. There have been other rumors which have suggested that the handset might actually come with a name like G4 Pro, but the G Pro lineup was discontinued for good late last year, so LG might not be looking to tread that path again anytime soon. Come to think of it, LG might not even launch this smartphone under the G series and come up with something completely different, seeing as the lineup hasn’t truly managed to set the sales charts on fire the way some of Samsung’s devices have been able to do over the years. Either way, with not much info on LG’s plans, anything and everything discussed right now will have to speculative. As we come closer to the commercial launch of the upcoming device, we’ll hopefully get to know more about LG’s next flagship smartphone.
