Motorola Canada has tweeted that the new Moto X Play will make its debut in Canada this Friday, August 21 and you should find it on Bell, Telus, Koodo and SaskTel. Next week the AWS networks, WIND Mobile and Videotron, should also see the Moto X Play arrive. Motorola Canada is still mum on if or when the larger and more powerful Moto X Style will be sold in Canada, but for now this mammoth 3,630mAh battery model will do just fine for those that need two days of battery life.
The Moto X Play is a strong mid-range contender with a 5.5-inch LCD FHD display and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 403 pixels-per-inch. Motorola stuck with Qualcomm and used their Snapdragon 615 – a 64-bit octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 1.0GHz and four cores clocked at 1.7GHz. It packs 2GB of RAM and comes with 16GB of internal memory that is expandable via a microSD card up to 128GB.
The main camera is a large 21MP with an aperture of f/2.0, autofocus and a dual-tone LED flash. The front-facing camera (FFC) is a full 5MP for great selfies and video chatting. The camera software is also robust with tap anywhere, 1080p video, slow motion video, 4X digital zoom, burst mode, night mode, Auto HDR, Panorama, and drag to focus. The large non-removable 3,630mAh battery should get you through 48 hours of usage and can be used with the TurboPower 15 Charger for quick charges. Other niceties included are water-resistance, microUSB port for charging and data transfer, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, NFC capable, LTE and ready for Android Pay. It will come running pure Android Lollipop 5.1.1, ensuring that you will get the fastest updates to the OS – other than Nexus devices, of course.
The device measures 148 x 75 x 8.9-10.9 mm and weighs in at 169 grams. It comes in our favorite color – black and will cost you about $400, although we will get more specific dollar amounts as we hear from the individual carriers. It is expected to run $0 – $50 on a two-year contract and $400 outright. With Friday just around the corner, we should have updates for you very shortly.
