HTC has been struggling a bit, but it looks like there’s another Verizon smartphone coming from them. As a device with the SKU HTCD200LVWPP has landed at the FCC. Now what makes us believe this is a Verizon device is because of the “VW” in there. Normally devices headed for Verizon Wireless will have a VW in their name and sometimes even in their model number. Depending on the manufacturer, obviously. Additionally, the FCC documents also show support for CDMA2000 networks, which is what Verizon uses for voice. As well as support for LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7 and 13. Three of those are Verizon’s, including the 2, 4, and 13 bands. It also appears that the device does not have a removable back cover this time around. The model number, for those wondering, is oPM9310.
So there’s not a whole lot that’s known about this device just yet. It could be an exclusive for Verizon, or it could be that new hero device that HTC has been saying is coming later this year. Which if it is that hero device, I hope they don’t make the same mistake they did with the HTC Desire EYE last year, and give the exclusive to AT&T. Now it’s also important to note, that just because the device has landed at the FCC, does not necessarily mean that it will ever see the light of day. There have been many smartphones and other devices land at the FCC, but never get announced or sold. So let’s keep that in mind as well.
There’s always the possibility that it could be another Desire device. However the model number doesn’t look similar to the other Desire’s announced, so it could be an unannounced model. One thing we do know, it’s not a DROID. Why? Simply because Motorola has the exclusive on making DROID smartphones for Verizon. Which is a big deal for Motorola, because Verizon does a huge marketing blitz for their DROID devices. Either way, we’ll keep looking for more details on this HTC device, and hopefully it does get announced soon for Verizon. And we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as it does.
