A brand new Huawei device has been spotted on the AnTutu benchmark database, and speculations are already on in full swing that the device might actually be the rumored Mate 7S phablet. Actually, as for the name of the upcoming device, Huawei’s teasers may have already revealed that the Mate series smartphone will have an “S” in its name, but it isn’t entirely clear if Huawei will use “7S” or just “S” to denote the upcoming device. Either way, the smartphone is said to be up for release on September 2nd, and invites sent out for the launch event has hinted at the presence of Force Touch. As for the device found on AnTuTu, it comes with the model number SUR-TL00, and has reportedly earned itself a fairly respectable score of 46,776 overall, but a comparatively meager 11,946 GPU score. Of course it is worth remembering that these are all synthetic benchmarks, so not always indicative of real-world performance.
Getting listed on the AnTuTu benchmark database also means we get a very good look at most of the hardware specs of the smartphone. According to the screenshot, the upcoming phone will feature a 5.7-inch Full HD 1080p display. The device will be powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 935 chipset, designed in-house by Huawei. The chipset will come with an embedded octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 2.1 GHz and a Mali-T628MP4 GPU. The device will also come with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. As for the imaging options, the primary camera on the upcoming device from Huawei will sport a 20-megapixel sensor by the looks of things, while the secondary front-facing camera should get an 8-megapixel sensor. The device was running Android 5.0 Lollipop at the time of the test.
So while that is all the info that can be derived from the screenshot, it is still a tad disconcerting to not even know the final name till now. As for the hardware, the Mate 7S has been previously rumored to carry a 13-megapixel camera on its back, so the 20-megapixel one is a definite upgrade – if true. Also the display resolution was earlier said to be QHD, although that may be wishful thinking given that this smartphone is essentially said to be aimed at business users, which would also explain the rather underwhelming GPU score. Either way, we’ll probably get to know more about the upcoming device as we get closer to the launch date next month.
