Panasonic Unveils Eluga Icon Handset In India For $172

Panasonic is a well-known brand, but they’re definitely not the first company you think of when someone mentions the word ‘smartphone’. Panasonic is in the smartphone business though, they push quite a few devices to the Indian smartphone market. The company actually said that they want to increase smartphone sales in India, and have recently announced the Panasonic Eluga Z smartphone. Well, the company is now back once again to announce yet another device in their Eluga smartphone lineup, the Eluga Icon. Let’s see what this smartphone has to offer, shall we.

The Eluga Icon features a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS OGS display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. MediaTek’s MT6752 64-bit octa-core SoC running at 1.5GHz powers this handset, along with a Mali T760 GPU for graphics. The 13-megapixel shooter is located on the back of this smartphone, and an 8-megapixel snapper is available up front. The 3,500mAh battery is also a part of this package, and Android 4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed on this phone with Panasonic’s ICON UI available on top of Android. This phone comes with 4G LTE support, and dual-SIM capability. The device measures 152.3 x 76.4 x 7.95mm, while it weighs 147 grams.

In line with this, we have come up with our new Eluga Icon which offers advanced features like the Smart iSense Technology which supports Single Tap & Blink Play which in turn enhances user experience.”

All in all, the Panasonic Eluga Icon is yet another well-specced mid-range offering by this Japanese company. The Eluga Icon comes in Gold and Slate color options and is priced at Rs. 10,990 ($172) in India, and it is available exclusively from Amazon India. It will be interesting to see if Panasonic can compete with other OEMs which are selling their devices in India, the Eluga Icon is a solid device, but the competition in India is fierce.
