Smartwatches aren’t known for having displays with the best resolution. That isn’t to say that what’s currently available for smartwatch options these days don’t provide a decent viewing experience with the displays they have attached to them. Still, most people would probably agree (those who are interested in smartwatches and have used them that is) that current options could do with receiving some improvements in the display department. The latest rumors suggest that LG may be looking into delivering on this front, and that they may be developing their next Android Wear smartwatch to come with a 480 x 480 resolution screen this time around.
For comparison, LG’s most recent smartwatch to date which is the LG Watch Urbane, only comes with a 320 x 320 resolution screen attached so this would be a nice little step up in terms of screen quality not only for what LG offers, but for smartwatches in general. The rumor states LG’s next watch is codenamed “Nemo” which is about the only other detail alongside the screen resolution listed above that is known about the watch at this time. That and the fact that it’s supposed to be running Android Wear. In knowing this, it’s fair to assume it’ll already be sporting Android Wear 5.1 as most of the current watches have already been updated to this version of the software. Unfortunately, there is no information on any other hardware or software details, so anything from the processor, to the potential waterproof rating is unknown, as is any information regarding build materials and other functionality like GPS.
Having a higher resolution display would be a good thing for many smartwatch users as it would help to provide better visibility in sunlight most likely, and just deliver an overall more enjoyable viewing experience when using it. Keep in mind that with a higher resolution display it’s possible that the watch could undergo more battery drain, so LG could potentially outfit the watch with a larger battery, which is another thing users likely wouldn’t mind having, as battery life is an area in which Android Wear watches and smartwatches in general could use some improvement.
