As Samsung is sending out invites to their Unpacked 2015 Event, scheduled on August 13, they are increasing their teaser ads and articles about the upcoming Galaxy Note 5. There are many rumors surrounding the device and specifications are starting to fall into place, but not anything completely concrete until Samsung gives the final word, although ‘controlled leaks’ are always part of their well-planned orchestration. On their blog, they have thrown out a statement, “7 Reasons Why Bigger is Better,” and then point out details to support that belief. There are a few photos of individuals doing their work on what we must assume is the new Galaxy Note 5, but no real close-ups to get a really good look…that is why they are called a ‘tease.’
Samsung tells us that the smartphone has evolved into more than a device to simply make a phone call or to use as an mp3 player – it is now a true “life companion,” as it makes an attempt to make many aspects of life easier. Because we rely so much on it, bigger is better and bigger makes it easier to use and enjoy. Samsung then proceeds to give use seven reasons why they believe that ‘bigger is better.’ The first couple of reasons deal with the camera – taking pictures and capturing video. Not that a larger screen will improve the quality of the pictures or videos, but a larger screen makes it easier to capture those special moments and to be able to better see what you are taking a picture of…be it a direct shot or a selfie. Smartphones have become the new video cameras of yesterday and, like taking a still shot, it is easier to see what you are filming as well as easier to edit on a big display.
The third and fourth reasons are the most obvious – Reading and Emailing/Messaging. Whether you are reading a book or browsing the web, a bigger display means that you can see more content with less scrolling. It also means there is more real estate to allow the user to split the screen for running multiple apps side-by-side at the same time. It is also noted that a bigger display means less eyestrain. When video chatting is not possible, a bigger screen makes it easier to read messages and to type your replies with fingers of any size. The bigger display allows for better-handwritten notes or doodling to your friends.
The last three reasons involve ‘Doing Business,’ ‘Watching Videos’ and ‘Playing Games.’ Samsung suggests that a bigger display and a smartphone equipped with an S-Pen, are more useful for taking notes, annotating documents or even drawing diagrams and when paired with appropriate apps the bigger screen allows the device to be a useful business tool. Other obvious advantages to the bigger screen is for watching videos or movies for those times when a TV is not available or for playing your favorite game – who wants to fool with a small display.
This teaser from Samsung does not really tell us anything new about the device, but does mean that we can expect almost daily teasers that will start to unveil a little more about the new Galaxy Note 5 as we eagerly await the official announcement that seems to be only days away.
