Samsung Schedules IFA Press Conference for September 3rd

Last week, Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, devices that have been rumored for quite a long time now. Traditionally, Samsung announces the next Galaxy Note smartphone during the IFA press event held every year in Berlin, but this year they jumped the gun. That left us all wondering whether or not Samsung would have a presence at IFA or if they’d have much to announce in Berlin next month. Well, towards the end of their event last week, they teased the mysterious round smartwatch we’ve been hearing a lot about, and we now know that’s their next big thing. Today, we were invited to a press conference Samsung is holding during IFA on September the 3rd.

Outside of the upcoming round smartwatch, we don’t have much idea of what else they’ll be offering during IFA, but another high-end Galaxy tablet could be on the cards, especially as the Galaxy Tab S2 duo were announced to some pretty lukewarm receptions. We got a better look at this round smartwatch in a “lookbook” provided by Samsung and it appears as though Samsung is simplifying their design approach compared to the Gear 2 and Gear S devices. A fully-circular display is featured in these photos as well as a slim, aluminum frame and silicon straps. Of course, these straps are more than likely going to be replaceable and we should see a variety of them announced on stage during the event.

At any rate, we’ll be there covering the event and we’ll have all the news that we can get our hands on. In the meantime, you can take a look at our coverage of the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5, including hands-on and benchmarks. We could also finally be getting some concrete information from Samsung regarding the European release of the Galaxy Note 5. While the consensus seems to be that the Galaxy Note 5 won’t be on sale in Europe during 2015, we can’t imagine Samsung not launching it at all, so we should hear more next month during IFA.
