Over the last few days and weeks, there has been a lot of information regarding Sony’s new flagship lineup and more leaks, usually means that the launch date is probably becoming closer. The Xperia Z5 lineup is supposed to be officially announced next month and the new flagship will be unveiled along the smaller Xperia Z5 Compact and the larger Xperia Z5 Ultra. There were many rumors about the design of these phones as the company has used very similar hardware in their last iterations, for better or for worse, so it seems that some users would like to see a bigger change in this department. Since Android Marshmallow will support fingerprint scanners, we will start seeing more devices using this sensor and Sony is very likely to include one on their new phones.
Some alleged pictures of two of these phones suggest that the fingerprint scanner will be included in a redesigned larger power button placed, on the side of the phone. Much like on the recently announced Huawei Honor 7i. The photos even showed how the software to configure this component might end up looking like. Yesterday, we got to see what looked to be a promotional photo for the Xperia Z5 Compact and it showed a familiar design with the flash on the side of the camera opposed to the usual placement below the camera of the larger models. The hardware button placement matches what we’ve seen from the leaks and it can be seen a recessed area where the power button is supposed to be.
Now, a picture of some schematics of the Xperia Z5 has leaked, showing what looks like the early design of a case. Once again, the placement of the camera button and the volume rocker matches the rest of the pictures and there’s a large cutout on the side where the new power button will be. There’s also a cutout on the back for the camera and the flash underneath it. This is for the model E6xxx, which resembles the model numbers that Sony has used for this year’s phones, for example the Xperia Z3+ carries the model number E6553 and difference in the last few numbers would likely be for different variants. There is still much that is unknown about the specs of the device(s) like the size and resolution of its screen or its internals, but as of now, it seems the new phone won’t be a large departure from what has been seen from the company previously.
