Sprint Celebrating DirecTV Merger, with Free Yr of Service

Many of you probably know that DirecTV and AT&T recently completed their merger. AT&T started offering some special plans for DirecTV customers, so that they can bundle their DirecTV and AT&T together. Well Sprint has decided to celebrate the merger as well. And are offering DirecTV customers a free year of service on Sprint’s network, when they switch from AT&T. So if you’re a DirecTV customer using T-Mobile or Verizon, you won’t be able to take advantage of this offer, unfortunately.

For switching to Sprint, users will get unlimited talk and text with 2GB of data each month for 12 months. The promotion goes from August 28th through September 30th for those switching from AT&T to Sprint. While it’s not unlimited data, it’s still hard to say no to free cell phone service for a year. This also works for existing Sprint customers who add a new line of service through Sprint Lease, iPhone Forever, Sprint Easy Pay or buying the phone at full price. Customers will be responsible, however, for the one-time activation fee of $36, as well as the monthly taxes and surcharges, which can be as much as $30, depending on the state you are in. So important to keep that in mind when thinking about taking Sprint up on their offer.

“Beginning Friday, Aug. 28, through Sept. 30, DIRECTV customers switching to Sprint or existing Sprint customers adding a new line of service through Sprint Lease, iPhone Forever, Sprint Easy Pay1 or paying full retail price for a smartphone get 12 months of unlimited talk, text and a full 2GB of data per line (up to five lines) all while on the Sprint network.”

Additionally, Sprint will pay off your current phone when you switch. This way you can switch and not have to worry about paying off that final bill from AT&T. As expected, after the free 12 months of service are up, you will be moved to a “competitive rate-per-line” plan. Which starts at 1 line for $50, and goes up to 5 lines for $180. This keeps the users at unlimited talk and text with 2GB of data. You can find out more about this promotion from Sprint’s newsroom, which is linked in the sources down below.
