Today, Samsung took the wraps off of their latest smartwatch, a bit early. Back at Unpacked, the company teased the Gear S2 smartwatch to be unveiled on September 3rd at IFA in Berlin. Well they announced it today. Coming in three models. Which appears to be a common theme this year. T-Mobile has just announced that they will be carrying the Gear S2 this fall. Now they haven’t given a date as to when it’ll be available, other than “this fall”.
T-Mobile will be offering the Gear S2 for just $5 per month. Customers will be able to add the Gear S2 to their phone plan with a special wearable rate plan. This rate plan includes unlimited talk and text with up to 500MB of high-speed data each month. Once you hit that 500MB limit, you will be throttled. Similar to their smartphone plans. But that means no overage charges. You’ll also be getting unlimited music streaming for services like Milk Music. This is great because it means that when you’re going for a run, you can take your Gear S2 with you and leave your smartphone at home. A really nice feature of the new Gear S2. Currently, we are unsure of which models of the Gear S2 that T-Mobile will be offering, but have reached out to T-Mobile for clarification, so we will update this post once we get word from team magenta. Obviously, they’ll be carrying at least the 3G model.
The Gear S2, S2 Classic and S2 3G all have a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED Display. Powered by a dual-core processor, likely an Exynos chip, and is clocked at 1.0GHz. There’s also 512MB of RAM. The 3G model of the Gear S2 features the first ever e-SIM which is capable of voice functionality. So you can make calls through your Gear S2 using your T-Mobile phone number, with your phone being nowhere around you.
We’ll be getting a look at the Gear S2 at IFA this week in Berlin. So you’ll want to keep it locked here on Android Headlines for all the details. There are plenty of other wearables that are planned to be announced this week too. Including availability of the Huawei Watch.
