Depending on your smartphone and manufacturer, Android Lollipop updates are still very much in the process. In fact, it is not only down to your device and manufacturer, but also down to your carrier too. Take the HTC One M9 for instance. While the One M9 is on Android 5.x (lollipop), whether or not it have seen the update to Android 5.1 is highly carrier-specific. AT&T updated their One M9 to 5.1 in mid-July. This was then followed by T-Mobile who began rolling out 5.1 to their One M9s back towards the end of July. In fact, Sprint were one of the first with their update for the One M9 beginning its roll out all the way back at the start of July. However, for those on Verizon, the wait has continued.
Well, it does look like the wait is finally over for Verizon One M9 owners as known information provider, Mo Versi, has taken to Twitter in the usual way to announce the update. According to Versi, the One M9 Verizon Android 5.1 update has now been approved and is due to begin rolling out tomorrow, August 20th. The tweet also confirms that the update will land via OTA which does mean that not everyone will get it at the same time. So although, the roll out begins tomorrow, you still may have to wait a couple of days.
Of course, there is a benefit this time round to being one of the last to see the One M9 update and that is that Versi also confirms the update comes with a patch for the notorious Stagefright bug that has been hitting the headlines so often recently. In addition, the update will also bring with it support or Bands 3 and 7 which should be of use to those who often roam. Not forgetting of course, the update will also bring with it the many reported bug fixes and improvements that come with the Android 5.1 update in general. As such, if you are a HTC One M9 owner on Verizon, then tomorrow is the day to start checking to see if your update has finally arrived.
