Xiaomi has announced both new software and hardware today in China. The company has unveiled a new version of their MIUI OS, and has also finally announced the Redmi Note 2 handset. MIUI 7 is the new version of Xiaomi’s Android-powered OS, and we’ve already covered both of these announcements separately. That being said, we’re here to take a closer look at the Redmi Note 2 handset considering the fact that the official hands-on images have surfaced on Xiaomi’s official webpage.
The gallery down below contains quite a few images of the all-new Redmi Note 2 smartphone. You can clearly see the design of this phone, which actually resembles Xiaomi’s previous devices (it’s actually identical to the Redmi Note 2 Prime which launched a couple of days ago) considering the company didn’t really step away from their design language all that much. Three capacitive buttons are still located below the display (menu, home and back), and the device sports a rather industrial look. Both the power / lock and volume rocker buttons are placed on the right-hand side of the Redmi Note 2.
As far as specs go, the Redmi Note 2 sports a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, 2GB of RAM and 16 or 32GB of expandable internal storage (depending on which variant you decide to purchase). MediaTek’s Helio X10 64-bit octa-core processor powers this phone, and you’ll find a 3,060mAh battery on the inside. The 13-megapixel camera can be found on the back of this phone, and a 5-megapixel snapper is located up front. IR blaster is placed on the top of the device, and the Redmi Note 2 comes in 5 color options (Black, White, Pink, Yellow and Cyan). This handset actually ships with MIUI 6 out of the box, not MIUI 7, Xiaomi’s new OS variant will reach Redmi Note 2 soon though.
This device measures 152 x 76 x 8.25mm, and it weighs 160 grams. How much does it cost? Well, the 16GB model will set you back 799 Yuan ($125), while the 32GB variant costs 899 Yuan ($140). The device will go on sale on August 16th in China, and the company still didn’t release any availability info for other countries in Asia, nor Brazil. Either way, stay tuned, we’ll report back as soon as Xiaomi releases some additional info.
