Xiaomi has announced a number of smartphones this year, and quite a few smart gadgets as well. This Chinese smartphone OEM still has to announce their Mi 5 flagship, and the long rumored Redmi Note 2 handset. That being said, Xiaomi has already sent out invites for their August 13th event where the company will showcase a new version of their Android-based UI, the MIUI 7. The unveiling will take place in Beijing, and we have some new info to share with you now, read on.
The initial MIUI launch will take place on August 13th, and the company has just announced that they’ll showcase MIUI 7 in India on August 19th as well. The launch will take place in New Delhi, and this will basically be the unveiling of the global variant of MIUI 7 which will come bundled in with Google Play Services. As you all know, Google’s services are blocked in China, so the Chinese variant of Xiaomi’s software doesn’t sport any of Google’s services. MIUI 7 might not be the only thing launched on August 19th though, the Redmi 2 Prime has already been listed on Amazon India, and it’s possible that Xiaomi intends to launch it before the end of the month, the only question is whether they’ll do it on August 19th or not.
The Redmi 2 Prime is essentially a better-specced Redmi 2 handset which launched earlier this year. The Redmi 2 Prime will sport a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The 8-megapixel camera will be available on its back, and you’ll be able to find a 2-megapixel snapper up front. The 2,200mAh battery will also be a part of this package. This handset will be powered by the Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core SoC, and as far as the design goes, it will be identical to the Redmi 2, at least judging by the images which leaked ahead of its launch. There you have it folks, it seems like Xiaomi is preparing to launch not only a new version of their Android skin, but also a new smartphone before the end of this month. Stay tuned for more info, we’ll report back soon.
