More Images Emerge Of The Rumored Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime

Earlier on Friday, we reported about a new Xiaomi smartphone going by the name of Redmi 2 Prime being spotted online ahead of the company’s scheduled press event on August 13th. Now, new images have emerged purporting to show off the new device in all its glory. You can see all the images at the gallery at the bottom of this article. As for the event Xiaomi has planned next week, the company is expected to launch its new MIUI 7 software alongside a new smartphone, which is rumored to be the company’s second generation mid-range phablet, the Redmi Note 2. As for the new device that has reportedly popped up online, the Redmi Note 2 now has its own page on the website of online retailer Amazon’s Indian domain, amazon.in. The pricing however, has not been disclosed on the device’s product page on Amazon India.

The newly listed smartphone seems to be a variant of the company’s entry-level offering, the Redmi 2, which was launched in India earlier this year, and got a price-cut back in June. The only difference on the spec sheet seems to be the amount of RAM and storage available on the newer variant. According to the hardware specifications revealed through the listing, the phone will have 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage instead of the 1 GB RAM and 8 GB storage found on the original Redmi 2. An Enhanced Edition of the Redmi 2 was originally introduced in China earlier this year with the exact same specs, and by the looks of things, the Redmi 2 Prime might well be that very same device, being readied for a launch in India under a different name.

Coming to the rest of the hardware, the listing on Amazon says that the Redmi 2 Prime features a 4.7-inch IPS HD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, which gives it a pixel density of 312 ppi. The device is powered by a Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 SoC from Qualcomm, and comes with an embedded quad-core 64-bit CPU clocked at a frequency of 1.2 GHz and an Adreno 306 GPU. Along with 16 GB on-board storage, the smartphone also happens to come with a microSD card slot, which will allow the storage capacity to be expanded by up to 32 GB. The smartphone comes with a 2,200 mAh Li-Po battery, and also has dual SIM capabilities. The phone happens to come with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed in the form of Xiaomi’s MIUI 6 custom ROM, and supports LTE connectivity. The smartphone also has an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera and weighs around 200 grams.
