Acer has their hands in a lot of different mobile products, ranging from smartphones to tablets that all run the Android operating system, to Chromebooks and Windows-based laptops and desktops. With IFA now underway and Acer’s press conference having already begun, the company has officially announced a brand new tablet aimed at gamers called the Predator 8, coming in with a range of specs that are fit for any gaming-focused mobile device. This isn’t the first we’ve heard of Acer’s line of Predator products as they showed off some of the lineup earlier this year, but this marks the official announcement of the device along with a proper list of hardware so users will know what to expect should they decide to pick one of these up.
First and foremost, the Predator 8 will be equipped with an 8-inch FHD display sporting 1920 x 1080 resolution, which also features what Acer is calling Predator ColorBlast technology built-in, allowing users to experience high-quality colors usually only found on monitors. With this technology Acer boasts the screen will be able to support 100 percent of the NTSC color gamut. Moving on from the display, the Predator 8 is powered by an Intel Atom X7 processor with Intel HD Graphics, and it carries up to 64GB with expansion up to 128GB via the microSD card slot for those who need more space. When it comes to gaming sound is also an important factor, and Acer has packed the Predator 8 with tech they call Predator Quadio which powers the four front-facing stereo speakers. This is further enhanced by Dolby Audio to focus on better quality sound for streaming movies, and music, as well as games. Those who take their mobile gaming seriously will be happy to know that through a partnership with Gameloft, the Predator 8 tablet will come pre-installed with Asphalt 8 Airborne and 320,000 in-game credits which is valued at $50.
It’s also packing a battery that Acer states will last up to 8.5 hours of use, although the actual battery capacity didn’t appear to be mentioned. It weighs in at about 350 grams so it should be quite light, and it comes in a little bit lit lighter than NVIDIA’s SHIELD tablet which weighs 390 grams. It also boasts front and rear cameras, with the rear camera coming in at 5MP and the front sporting a 2MP sensor. The Predator 8 runs the latest version of Android so far with Android 5.1 Lollipop on board, and when it’s slated to go on sale in North America on November 6th, it will do so through an exclusive partnership with newegg for two weeks at the price of $299.99. After the two weeks, Acer states it will be available nationwide via other retailers which weren’t specified at this time. Acer is also bringing the Predator 8 tablet to the EMEA and China sometime in October with prices starting at €349, and ¥2499 respectively.
