Android App Updates – Sept. 11, 2015: Twitch, Rdio & More

Twitch updates to v4.4

Twitch decided to update their Android app this week over on Google Play. The changelog isn’t that long. But the biggest feature that is new here is push notifications for a new broadcast starting. So if you’re following someone that goes live on Twitch, you’ll get an instant notification, so you can jump into the app and view the stream. Pretty neat.

Wikipedia App also Updated

Wikipedia updated their app this week as well. Mostly with bug fixes and such. But now there are also pop ups to review links when you tap on them inside the app. Pretty cool and something that can be very useful in Wikipedia.

Periscope adds Landscape broadcasting

One of the things I disliked about Periscope was the fact that you can only record in portrait mode. But with the update that hit this week, you are now able to do live broadcasting in landscape mode. Definitely a big improvement for Twitter’s most popular app. Periscope has been very popular as of late, and with landscape now being there, it’s likely to be even more popular.

Rdio gets support for Google Cast

Google announced Cast for Audio not too long ago. So you can stream audio to speakers like the Sonos. Rdio updated their app this week to support Google Cast for Audio. Making Rdio compatible with more connected speaker systems as well as Smart TV’s. So if you’re an Rdio user, this is fantastic news. You can pick up the update from the Google Play Store right now.

Opera Mini gets updated

This week, Opera brought a very popular feature to their mini browser. That is data savings. So now you can browse the web all you want without eating up a ton of data. This is great for those that browse websites and don’t watch many videos in the browser, as data savings cannot yet save data from watching videos in the browser. But that’s likely coming soon. You can pick up the update for Opera Mini in the Play Store right now.
