Motorola had been using a strategy which consisted of releasing one phone for each segment, the Moto E is the entry-level offering, the Moto G belongs to the mid-range and it is the company’s best seller and then the Moto X was their flagship device. Even if its specs weren’t the best ones available, it offered an overall good experience enhanced by some functions exclusive to Motorola plus it offered an unparalleled level of customizing its hardware. This year Motorola changed their strategy a little bit as the Moto G became more customizable through Motorola’s Moto Maker and they didn’t release one Moto X device, but two, the Moto X Play and the Moto X Style, which would be known as Moto X Pure in the U.S., and actually, this would be the only one heading to the country.
For those interested in taking full advantage of the level of customization on offer, including the wood options, leather options or the choose between the many colors of the silicon-made back covers (plus some metallic accents in different colors), they were best off buying the phone through Motorola’s site. Of course, there are those that would simply prefer to buy it from one of the many retailers. Best Buy is one of those retailers and since yesterday, they are offering the phone with the front in black or white with matching colored backs, along with the option of a bamboo back and white front. Today, most of the models seem to be sold out, except for the least expensive one which is the black version and 16 GB of internal storage, which runs $399.99.
This could mean that the phone is selling better than its predecessors or that Motorola sent a relatively small stock to Best Buy. Either way, it’s clear that there’s interest towards the phone, which is not surprising as it offers high-end features like a 5.7-inch display with QHD resolution and a capable 20.7-megapixel camera for a price that is way below some other flagship devices. Not forgetting the benefits of having an unlocked and unbranded device, getting the latest updates faster than some and not having to deal with bloatware.
