Awhile ago, Samsung had announced that it has commenced development of the Galaxy Mega On. The Galaxy Mega On is a phablet (a device that has a screen that is between the size of a normal smartphone and a tablet) which is a model which is related to the Galaxy Mega and Galaxy Mega 2. A few weeks ago, the device was sent to India for a series of tests after the AnTuTu benchmark released the specifications on the device. Just recently, China’s TENAA (Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center MIIT) which is the authority of certifying new devices for use in the country, approved the Galaxy Mega On for certification. When the TENAA approves of a device, the launch of the device is usually around the corner. On the TENAA’s website, there is information displayed regarding its specifications and includes images of the device. At first glance, the device looks like its predecessors, but when you take a closer look, the bezels are considerably thinner than usual. It is not common to see a phablet with such a thin bezel. The Samsung Galaxy Mega On uses the Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) OS and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor along with a 1.5GB RAM. The device has dimensions of 151.8 x 77 x 8.2mm and a weight of 172g. The front camera contains 5 megapixels and the rear camera contains 13 megapixels. It has an internal memory of 8GB and a battery of 3,000mAh. The screen size is 5.5 inches with screen pixels of 1280 x 720 and screen color depth of 16,000,000. This device supports 2G, 3G and 4G LTE frequencies. It contains standby GPRS, WAP 2.0, WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities. The body of the device is available in white.
It will be interesting to see what the buyers of the device will have to say about the unusually thin bezel. Samsung must ensure that the unusually thin bezel do not, in any way affect the quality of the device. If cosmetics is made paramount over the quality of the device, the company will be at the losing end in the fierce competition of the smartphone market.
