The HTC One A9 is one of those devices that has seen a ton of speculation in the last few weeks and months. This is not too surprising when you consider the reports coming through on HTC’s financial standing of late. As such, as well as being a new device from a top-tier manufacturer, the next devices from HTC are also being seen as somewhat make-or-break devices for the company. Therefore when the rumors and speculation first started being batted around, the assumptions were the One A9 would be a fully fledged flagship device.
Although, more recent reports that have come through seem to be suggesting just the opposite. In spite of HTC seemingly needing a big hit on their hands the most recent suggestion is that the One A9 is far more likely to be a mid-range device. At least, if you believe the current specs being touted. On that basis and assuming the mid-range stance of the One A9, the assumptions going forward are likely to be that price will be crucial for the One A9. If HTC do not get the pricing right, then this could fall by the wayside.
On that note, it seems the first indications of price are starting to come through and they may be a little surprising for some. Typical of prior to a device launch, some retailers often list the price of the device before it is announced. While this is not always an accurate pastime, what it does often do is provide an overview of the ballpark figure. Retailers often have more information (and especially on pricing) than other sources and therefore, they do have their merit. Well, a Dutch retailer is currently listing the HTC One A9 with a price tag of 584 Euros before tax and 706.64 Euros after tax. To put this into perspective, this equates to roughly $805 in the U.S. Now, it does seem extremely unlikely that if this is a mid-range device then it will come with this sort of price tag. Not to mention, device do not always equate to a direct currency exchange cost in different regions. Although either way, it does suggest that it will not be a cheap device by any means. On a side note, the retailer does also list the variants that will be on offer as Topaz Gold, Deep Garnet, Opal Silver and Carbon Grey, further suggesting that they do have some info on the device. So it would seem there are two clear possibilities here, the pricing is flat out wrong or the device will be a more high-spec device than the current rumors suggest.
