Exclusive: Meizu's New Logo, Explained

We are here in Beijing, China yet again. This time to see what Meizu has for us tomorrow at their “Meizu Go Pro” event. This isn’t our first Meizu event we’ve attended, but this could be the biggest. Meizu has a number of announcements lined up for tomorrow, and it all gets underway at 2pm CST (that’s China Standard time). For those in Europe that will be 7am, and in the us, that’s 2am on the east coast and 11pm Tuesday night on the west coast. We’ve seen a number of teasers on the new Meizu Pro 5, which we will be seeing tomorrow live in living color, as well as a few other surprises which the company hinted at. But another announcement that the company is making tomorrow is in regards to their logo.

Seems like everyone is changing their logos these days, Google, Lenovo, Verizon, and now Meizu. The company explained why they decided to change their logo, after nearly 12 years of the same logo.

“The new Meizu logotype is designed to reflect the leading smartphone manufacturer’s vision to deliver world-class human-centered technology. Meizu’s strong humanistic philosophy is visible in the simplicity of the logotype, which features slim uppercase sans-serif letterforms with smooth edges – similar characteristics to their smartphone designs. The logotype is balanced, youthful and approachable. The uplifting energy and vibrancy of Meizu is further reflected by a brighter shade of blue.”

Upon meeting up with Meizu today at their check in location, we got a chance to check out the new Meizu logo as well as the new Pro logo. Which appears to be all in lowercase. The new logo looks quite nice, if I say so myself. Of course we’ll be seeing lots more of it tomorrow during the keynote. It seems that most companies these days are going for the flat, minimalistic type, in terms of logos. Which we don’t have any problems with. It is definitely a bit different. You can take a look at the handful of pictures we snapped today of the new logo as well as the Meizu Pro logo, down below.

The story here is the new Meizu logo, but  tomorrow it will be all about the Meizu Pro 5. Which has been hyped up to be a pretty interesting device. Meizu’s VP Li Nan has stated that it will have 8 hours of on screen time – which we have an exclusive interview with him after the event tomorrow, so we’ll learn loads more then! But it looks like the Pro 5 will be another flagship line, not to be confused with the MX5. The Pro 5 is almost a competitor to the MX5, so it’ll be interesting to see how the company plans on selling and marketing both devices.
