Google announced their latest Nexus phones today, for the first time, they partnered with the Chinese manufacturer Huawei to create the Nexus 6P, and for the third time, LG made a Nexus smartphone called Nexus 5X. While both phones were created to showcase how the Android operating system should work, the Nexus 6P is the more powerful of the two. We will have to wait a little longer to review the full potential of this phone, but for now, let’s review some of the features that make this such an interesting device.
First of all, the design. Huawei has created some beautiful devices lately, and while some elements of the new phone could have been better integrated into the design of the hardware, they designed it to be instantly recognizable as a Nexus device, and those subtle curves and chamfered edges on the aluminum chassis provide an elegant look. The 5.7-inch display is made with AMOLED technology which should provide excellent contrast levels in addition to saturated and vibrant colors, while its QHD resolution, resulting in a density of 518 ppi, makes up for very sharp pictures. When looking to buy a phone, we always consider those that have the latest technologies, as those would last a little longer, one example of a technology that would be widely available in a near future is the USB Type-C connector found on this phone, which besides having a reversible plug, it will support faster speeds in charging and data transfer.
The main camera on this phone was highlighted during the event, it includes a 12.3-megapixel Sony sensor, and while that doesn’t sound very impressive, it uses larger pixels that capture more light, so it performs better than those on the competition under low-light situations. A circular fingerprint sensor is located on the back of the phone and using the Nexus Imprint technology, it can recognize fingerprints in just 600 milliseconds, plus, users don’t need to wake the phone to use it. On the audio department, there are front-facing stereo speakers, which should certainly provide a more immersive experience while gaming or watching movies than those located on the back or downwards, plus, they are hardly noticeable.
