If you bought the Nexus 6 or even the Nexus 5, you may remember that when using it – with it laying on a table – the phone would wobble. With the Nexus 6, that was largely due to curved back of the Nexus 6. The designer of the Nexus 6P, Jeff Hoefer, spoke with Tech Crunch about the design here and mentioned that due to the black bar that is on the back of the Nexus 6P – which houses the NFC, Bluetooth, WiFi and other various antennas – it keeps the device from wobbling on the table. According to Hoefer, “What we did is we looked at what happened with [the Nexus 6] and what happened with 5 the previous year. What we did with the 5X is an evolutionary change. With 6, what I wanted to do is something a little bit more polarizing and very different in the market.”
The Nexus 6P is sculpted very naturally. Not only to fit well in your hand but also to keep from wobbling on the table. Something a lot of phones these days have issues with. As far as putting all of the antennas and sensors in the black bar on the back, Hoefer stated, “For me, the black strip is the portal to bringing the digital world into your phone. I wanted something that would have some mystery to it.” Which we think he succeeded in adding a bit of mystery to the Nexus 6P. Many people were wondering what that black bar was for when it kept leaking out. Many thought it was ugly. But after seeing the finished product, it looks darn good.
The Nexus 6P is still currently on sale in the Google Store, or at least available for pre-order. The 32GB models are at 3-4 weeks with the 64GB and 128GB models coming in at about 5-6 weeks. Additionally, the 32GB Frost model is currently unavailable. So it appears that model is completely sold out right now, actually. The Nexus 6P should be landing in customers hands in just a few weeks, and it’s going to be exciting to see what everyone else thinks of the design of the Huawei-made Nexus 6P.
