Meizu has been hot in the news lately, as their smartphones are coming with solid specs, build quality, good design, and a reasonable price. Their latest flagship is the Meizu MX5, launched back in June, with a metal body and 3 GB of RAM. As life moves forward, the rumor mill has been around for a while now regarding the launch of their next flagship and now we are less than a week away from putting our eyes on the new device. It has been revealed by the vice-president of the Chinese company that the handset will be called Meizu Pro 5, with the MX brand being scrapped. The company also stated that the device will be launched on September 23rd, teasing the phrase “Meizu Go Pro”, and now we know what it suggests.
Another important launch to be held during the event is the latest iteration of their Android overlay called Flyme OS 5.0. Chinese manufacturers are known for customizing their UIs to make them look somewhat similar to iOS, from Apple, and the most remarkable feature is the lack of an app drawer. This new version will be based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and is focused more on bug fixes and performance improvements than in adding new features. Well, if you can’t wait to put your hands on Flyme OS 5.0 together with the Meizu Pro 5, there’s a bit of bad news – different from what has been previously said, the flagship device won’t come with this version upon launch and will run Flyme OS 4.5 instead, the latest stable iteration of the system, based on Android 5.0. The reason for this, according to Meizu’s chief designer Yang Yan on his Weibo account, is that the company wants to make sure that everything is running smooth and stable and the software is correctly adjusted for the hardware. However, it shouldn’t take long for the update to be made available for the new Pro 5. Owners of the MX5 will be able to download Flyme OS 5.0 when at launch.
As for the Meizu Pro 5, there aren’t many details revealed. The alleged specs suggest the phone will come with the powerful Samsung’s Exynos 7420, the same 64-bit processor found on the Galaxy Note 5 and other flagships from the Korean manufacturer. The device is expected to sport a 5.5-inch screen with Full HD resolution and models with 3 and 4 GB of RAM. There are also rumors that a second version may come featuring MediaTek’s hyped Helio X20 SoC, the monster one with 10 cores to show off. The fact that the screen features only a Full HD resolution is a good thing, meaning the device will probably have a better battery life and overall speed should be superior to that of the Galaxy Note 4, as a Geekbench test revealed. The device will also boost a 21-megapixel rear camera and a 5 MP front shooter. As stated before, all questions should be answered on September 23rd, so stay tuned for more news.
