It is a fairly common strategy for mobile phone manufacturers to release some variants of their flagship devices. The design of these variants is typically based on the flagship and the internals are the ones to change. Also, companies are opting to release two flagship devices in one year to keep the competition going with those handsets that get released along the year. There is a rumor going that LG could release a “super premium” smartphone on the second half of the year, while details regarding that smartphone are still scarce, the rumors point at a device with a large screen which could be named LG G4 Pro or LG G4 Note to compete with phablets like the Galaxy Note 5 from Samsung.
This year’s flagship, the LG G4, already has some variants, the LG G4c is a more compact version of that smartphone, the LG G4 Beat has a 5.2-inch display and the LG G4 Stylus has a rather large 5.7-inch display and adds a stylus into the mix. Now, it has been reported that the company has trademarked a couple of names for future devices. The names are G4 Graphy and G4 Script and they were registered in South Korea. Both names make a reference to some sort of writing skill, which might translate on some stylus functionality of the devices. Of course, there’s a chance that the company might not release the devices or perhaps we will get to see only one of them.
There are no details about either of the devices yet, but as they carry the G4 name, we could expect a similar design with rear mounted buttons and some of the features that are popular on the flagship device such as a good camera or even more important, a removable battery and Micro SD card support, a combination that is rarely seen these days. LG has tried to compete with the Note series in the past, but they still haven’t been able to succeed, perhaps because of the weird aspect ratio of the Vu series or the lack of functionality of the included stylus in some of their devices.
