Gionee is one of many Chinese OEMs who are currently manufacturing smartphones. This company has become rather popular back in 2014 when they introduced the thinnest smartphone in the world, the Elife S5.1. That handset was 5.2mm thick, and even though it didn’t hold the title of the thinnest smartphone in the world for long, people remembered the Gionee branding. The company has introduced several devices since then, and the most recent ones are the Marathon M5 mid-range handset with a big battery, and the company’s flagship phablet, the Elife E8.
That being said, another Gionee-branded handset leaked recently, the Elife S5.1 Pro, the successor to the Elife S5.1. Well, the company has decided to announce this handset today in China, let’s see what it has to offer. The S5.1 Pro sports a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) AMOLED 2.5D display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 protection on top. The device is powered by MediaTek’s MT6753 64-bit octa-core SoC running at 1.5GHz along with a Mali T-720 GPU for graphics. This phone sports 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card). The 13-megapixel shooter is available on the back of this phone, and an 8-megaipixel snapper can be found up front. This device offers two SIM card slots, one of which can be used as a microSD slot as well. The 2,400mAh battery is also a part of this package, and this handset does offer 4G LTE connectivity, in case you were wondering. Android 5.1 Lollipop comes pre-installed here with Gionee’s Amigo UI 3.1 on top of it.
The Gionee S5.1 Pro sports a metal frame, and the loudspeaker is located on the bottom of the device. There are also three capacitive buttons available under the display (overview, home and back, respectively). The S5.1 Pro is a well-specced mid-range offering by the company, and will be available in China soon. Unfortunately, we still have no info when it comes to its pricing, but will let you know as soon as something pops up. We do, however, know that the device will be available in Gold and White color combination, as you can see in the images above and below this article. Either way, stay tuned for more info.
