Everyone likes shared family plans for multiple accounts in the same house, especially if it is music. And it is the one thing Google Play Music seemed to be lacking, catering only to individual needs. Google Play Music is now going to more popular than ever, as the company just announced a new family plan with prices more competitive than Spotify, Rdio and others in the competition. And this move seems to be a direct response to the launch of Apple Music, and aptly so. Google has been long overdue on family plans for now.
The new family plan will set you back $14.99 a month and will include six users in the subscription for All Access package, whereas the current single subscription costs about $9.99. So it makes sense to opt for the family plan instead of the individual plan even if there are only two people in the family. If all the six persons decide to use the service, the costs come down to $2.50 per month – dirt cheap for a service Like Google Play Music unlimited access. Each member of the family gets their recommendation and playlist, along with authorization limit for devices that can be used with the service. This looks ideal for a common home setup with multiple users. Google is also providing ninety days of free service to anyone who buys a Nexus, providing customers an excellent way to enjoy the new service.
For the uninitiated, Google Play Music is an alternative to Spotify and Apple Music. Google Play Music has been in the scene for quite a few years now. The original service was a type of locker service which allowed users to upload songs and then stream them to any device. The app gradually evolved to be a service that enables the user to listen to music from Google Play all they want, using the unlimited access subscription. Though this exciting plan was announced in Google’s event today, among other announcements for the likes of the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, there was no explicit mention on when the new plan would be available. Google hinted at a late 2015 launch.
