Rumor: Google to Intro Play Music Family Plan for $15 This Week

Tomorrow, September 29th, is going to be a big day for Google and fans, especially those of the Nexus variety. With the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P perhaps the worst kept secrets from Google since LG’s original Nexus, the Nexus 4, it would appear that Google is fresh out of surprises for us this week. This could have been one of their little surprises, but it looks like the cat is out of the bag on this one as well, as Android Police have managed to get their hands on info suggesting Google is to launch a family plan for Google Play Music tomorrow. This little tidbit would be a fresh announcement to join Android 6.0 Marshmallow as well as their new hardware.

If you’re unfamiliar with Google Play Music, it’s essentially Google’s answer to the likes of Spotify and Apple Music, and has been running for a few years now. It originally launched as a sort of locker service that allowed users to upload their own music and stream it from wherever they might be; this functionality still remains but since then the Internet giant has signed all sorts of deals to offer the best of today’s music as well. Google’s Play’s ‘All Access’ pass is a monthly subscription that allows users to listen to all they want, but Google doesn’t currently offer a family plan. According to a report from Android Police however, tomorrow sees the introduction of just such a plan. With support for up to six, count ’em six, devices for just $15 a month. Not only is that cheap, but it’s hella-cheap.

Just what sort of restrictions – if any – such a family plan will have remains to be seen, but it does seem likely there will be some drawbacks. Spotify has often been the cheapest out there, but their family plan – nor does TIDAL’s – include as many devices as these, so perhaps only so many can stream at the same time, or maybe there will be offline restrictions? Who knows, but we should find out everything tomorrow, as we’ll be in attendance during Google’s big Fall event, covering all of the latest Nexus and Android news as we get it.
