It seems that Samsung is not done releasing smartphones this year. We started hearing something about some devices that would belong to a new series called Galaxy O. It certainly fits into the naming scheme the company has been using for a while, the Galaxy name refers to devices using the Android operating system. It is followed by a letter and a number, the letter refers to the materials used on the construction of that particular family and the number makes reference to the screen size and the internals for each device.
Since Samsung already has a lot of devices that fit into many categories, from the entry-level to their flagship devices, it would be hard to imagine where Galaxy O series might fit. Then, it was suspected that the letter O could also make a reference to a partnership with Oculus, makers of virtual-reality headsets. The devices that allegedly belong to the Galaxy O series are the SM-G550 and SM-G600, known as Galaxy O5 and Galaxy O7 respectively. Oculus will have a series of conferences from September 23 to September 25 so that developers, designers and engineers can learn more about the platform and launch dates for future devices. If the previously rumored partnership turns out to be true, we will probably hear more about it on those dates.
There aren’t many details about the devices, but some specs for the SM-G550 were found on the GFXBench site. The device features a 5-inch screen with HD resolution. There’s an Exynos 3475 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz powering up the device and a Mali-T720 GPU will take care of the graphics. The test shows 0.9 GB of RAM, so it probably features 1 GB of RAM or even a little more. There are 4.5 GB of internal storage, so the spec sheet will probably list an 8 GB module. The 7-megapixel picture detected for the main camera suggests that there’s an 8-megapixel camera sensor and the front-facing camera will feature a 5-megapixel sensor. It has support for NFC and it will run Android 5.1.1 out of the box. As you can see, the specs are nothing to brag about, in fact, some of their current offerings share some of these specs, so perhaps some extra features will be integrated into those phones to make them different.
