Rumor: Samsung O Range Could Be Samsung/Oculus VR Smartphones

Samsung makes smartphones. They do make a ton of other products too, however, when it comes to smartphones, the South Korean company makes a lot of them. In fact, it had been recently suggested that they were planning on thinning down their smartphone portfolio, although it could be argued this thinning has not been anywhere near as impacting as we may have thought. As a result a number of Samsung devices have been hitting the market of late including some newer ones like the Galaxy J range of devices

Well, a couple of days ago, a new rumor popped up that Samsung were working on an “O” range of smartphones too. At the time, the information came from Sammobile and although the “O’ was dropped, next to no other details were provided with the exception of the SM-G550 and the SM-G600 models numbers which were said to be the O range devices. A short while later, an update hit the original report suggesting that the Galaxy Mega On and Galaxy Grand On shared the same model numbers and therefore, the O rumor as a new line, seemed less certain.

Well, another report now has emerged and adds another dimension to the O rumor. The new report details that Samsung and Oculus may be working on some sort of smartphone series of devices and it is said they will be more virtual reality focused. What’s more, is that Oculus is expected to be holding an event in September and there is a slim chance these devices could make an appearance. Even suggesting a possible December shipping along with the Oculus Rift. The exact quote causing the newest suggestion comes from Piper Jaffray and is as follows “We believe Oculus in combination with Samsung could either launch a new phone series for VR as they are rumored to be releasing the “O Series” or, alternatively (but unlikely), it could be an all in one wireless VR headset.”

Of course, whether The O range does exist and is a combination of Oculus and Samsung or is simply the two other Samsung devices already mentioned is still a matter of speculation. The O range started as a rumor and it is not clear if this new info is an extension of the same original rumor or a different rumor entirely.
