Huawei has introduced the company’s new high-end handset during IFA in Berlin, the Mate S. This was supposed to be a direct successor to the Mate7, and have a bigger display, but the company went with a 5.5-inch panel this time around. so it technically still belong in the smartphone category (it depends who you ask though). Anyhow, the Mate S is made out of metal, and it features the ‘Force Touch’ display (one variant of the device only though) which we’ve already seen on the Apple Watch. This is a high-end handset and such are its specs, which we’ll check out in a minute.
We managed to get our hands-on the Mate S unit in Berlin, and if you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll see a number of Mate S hands-on images directly from the show floor. You can also expect our review to be live as soon as we spend some time with this device, so stay tuned for that. Anyhow, the Huawei Mate S sports a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) AMOLED ONCELL display, along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The HiSilicon Kirin 935 64-bit octa-core processors fuels this smartphone, and a 2,700mAh battery is also a part of the package. The 13-megapixel BSI OIS shooter (f/2.0 aperture) is available on the back of this phone, while you’ll find an 8-megapixel snapper on the front side of Huawei’s newest handset. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop comes pre-installed on this phone with Huawei’s EMUI (Emotion UI) 3.1 skin on top of it. Speaking of software, the device also offers Knuckle Sense 2.0 tech for various gestures, which might come in handy for some of you.
The Mate S measures 149.8 x 75.3 x 7.2mm, while it weighs 156 grams. The device will be available in Titanium Grey and Mystic Champagne color options, and the device will be available in over 30 countries all over the world. The pre-orders in Western Europe kick off on September 15th, and consumers in China will be able to pre-order this thing a week before that.
