Earlier today, Google announced the Nexus 6P, the first Nexus device to be manufactured by Huawei and a new take on last year’s Nexus 6 from Motorola. The device has leaked out time and time again before today, leaving us feeling as if Google and their new friend had little to surprise us with. How wrong we were, as the Nexus 6P has turned to be every bit the device we thought it would be, and more. We were in attendance during their San Francisco event, and while we’ve already covered the main announcement and the specs, it’s the hardware that will really decide it for the majority considering getting their hands on the new Nexus 6 from Huawei.
Not only is this a decent amount larger than LG’s Nexus 5X, it’s built out of different materials, and there’s a slightly different design here. Rather than the soft, rounded look and feel Huawei have given the Nexus blueprint a slightly more angular feel, and fans of the Chinese company’s other devices will no doubt see the similarities with other models. While we say more angular, the Nexus 6P really on exhibits a more modern look, it still feels great in hand, if not a little slippy and cold due to the metal construction. The camera is worked in more thoughtfully here, with a whole stripe at the top of the phone to house all the sensors and LEDs and such, this gives more room for the fingerprint sensor to stand out and is easily found as it’s the only item on the rear of the device that can be felt out blind.
Despite the Nexus 6P sporting a massive 5.7-inch display, it makes up for 74% of the overall body, and this looks and feels more like a device with a 5.5-inch device, such as the LG G4 or OnePlus Two thanks to scant bezels and little besides the two stereo speakers on the front of the device.
