Honda Bringing Android Auto to the 2016 Civic

Not too long ago, Honda announced that they are bringing Android Auto and Apple’s CarPlay to their 2016 Accord. That would be their only car featuring Android Auto, however that changed today. Honda has announced that the 2016 model-year Civic will also see Android Auto. Honda announced the new model of the Civic today on YouTube. What a great way to announce Android Auto in a new car?

“This tenth-generation Civic is quite simply the most ambitious remake of Civic we’ve ever done,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co, Inc. “We are bringing more new technology and innovative thinking to Civic than ever before to establish a new benchmark for fun-to-drive performance, fuel efficiency, safety performance and refinement in the compact class.”

The announcement isn’t all about Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, as this is a new car for Honda. The 2016 model will be available as a sedan, coupe, high-performance Si models, a 5-door hatchback and also includes the Civic Type-R model for the US Market. Which is the first time ever. Honda says that this makes the most diverse and innovative lineup in Civic’s 43-years of making cars. The car maker is also stating that Honda Sensing will be included in the new Civic. This includes a suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. Which include collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow. Which is actually brand new to Honda’s models. The company believes that this brings even more value to the compact segment.

When it comes to Android Auto, Honda has included a 7-inch HD display audio touchscreen in the center console of the car. This is for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay as well as Honda’s own infotainment system. Which makes for a great connected-car experience. Something that some other cars don’t come with these days. To take advantage of Android Auto, you’ll need a smartphone running Android 5.0 or above.

The 2016 Honda Civic is targeted to be launching later this fall. We’ll keep you up to date as to when it’s available and when you can pick one up.
